A Delicious Twist on the Buttercream Latte Using Buttercream Frosting
If you spend any time on TikTok, you’ll know that the buttercream latte is trending.
I think we can make the buttercream latte even better by using actual buttercream frosting!
The recipe on TikTok appears to be melted butter with brown sugar and then adding cream. That’s a lot of steps to do in the morning!
This is a quick and simple recipe that you will love as it only involves two ingredients: prepared buttercream frosting and hot coffee. Yum!
Using buttercream frosting may seem like too much. But have you ever looked at the ingredients in coffee creamer??
The buttercream frosting uses three real ingredients AND you can control the amount of sugar. Not so easy with store bought creamer.
You will prepare the buttercream frosting just once a month making this faster than the traditional latte recipe you see online.
Let’s get started.

How to Make a Buttercream Latte
Buttercream Frosting Recipe
You will want to make a batch of buttercream frosting. This batch will last you a month in the refrigerator.
You can think of the buttercream frosting as a replacement for your vanilla coffee creamer.
To make the buttercream latte frosting, gather:
- 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter (you can use salted if you like salted lattes)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (alternatively, use almond extract if you like almond lattes)
The instructions couldn’t be simpler:
- In your stand mixer or your hand held mixer, beat the softened butter until lighter in color, about two minutes.
- Slowly add your cup of powdered sugar as to not make a mess.
- Add your vanilla extract and beat until just combined.
Store the vanilla buttercream in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Choose a fun container if you are into the coffee aesthetic!
Want a mocha coffee instead of vanilla? Just add a tablespoon of cocoa powder into the frosting while mixing it.
Hot Buttercream Latte Recipe
Option 1: Drip Coffee Hot Buttercream Latte Recipe:
- Prepare your favorite drip coffee. I like to use an organic coffee that is third party tested for mold.
- Add your coffee to your favorite mug and place a tablespoon of the prepared buttercream frosting into your coffee and stir to combine.
Option 2: Espresso Hot Buttercream Latte Recipe:
- Prepare your espresso shot(s) and then pour it into your favorite mug.
- Add a tablespoon of the buttercream frosting to the espresso and stir to combine.
- Top the espresso with steamed milk.
Iced Buttercream Coffee Recipe
Option 1: Iced Buttercream Coffee Recipe:
- Brew your favorite cup of hot coffee.
- Add one tablespoon of the buttercream frosting and mix. You will want a high powered mixture since the buttercream will be hard from the refrigerator.
- Add plenty of ice.
*You will use hot coffee rather than cold (such as cold brew) as the cold coffee will not allow the buttercream to mix with the coffee. You will need to always start with a hot coffee base.
Option 2: Iced Espresso Buttercream Latte Recipe:
- Prepare your espresso shot(s) and then pour it into your favorite glass.
- Add a tablespoon of the buttercream frosting to the espresso and stir to combine.
- Top the espresso with cold milk and plenty of ice.
